Metropolitan areas across the country face the
serious issue of homelessness. Homelessness involves a
variety of issues, such as unemployment, mental illness, and
substance abuse. Communities are seeking ways to address all
these problems in an effort to help individuals to secure long-term
housing. When a person has a home, he or she is given a sense
of empowerment and stability that can help the individual cope with
other struggles. Alleviating homelessness can lead to
individuals’ living independently and contributing to society
as productive citizens.
